Indigenous Culture

As the oldest continuous living culture on the planet, Aboriginal people have an intrinsic connection to country that extends across forty thousand years of habitation upon what is one of the more inhospitable continents on earth. Central to the sustainability practices of Aboriginal culture are the spiritual links to plants and their myriad uses including, food, medicine, shelter, tools, weapons, fibre, art and ceremony.

The spiritual link between Aboriginal people, plants and animals ensured a reverence and importance for sustaining resources into the future. A belief system connecting all living things through ancestral spirits, the dreaming and respect for our earth mother coupled with the necessity for sustainable plant use continues to be an integral component of Aboriginal culture.
