National Aboriginal & Islander Children's Day
National Aboriginal and Islander Children’s Day (NAICD) is a celebration of Indigenous children and is held on the 4th of August each year. NAICD was first observed by the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC) in 1988. Each year SNAICC produces and sends out resources to help celebrations for NAICD.
International Youth Day
This special day is held every year on August 12th. International Youth Day was declared by the United Nations in 1985 to raise awareness of children's issues. The main theme of the day is to remind the public about the importance of youth, a key stage of life which should be celebrated all over the world.
We are currently halfway through the Hindu month of Shravan. During this month many festivals and religious ceremonies are conducted due to many days being auspicious for 'Shubh Arambh' (Marathi for good start). During this month many people fast during the day or restrict themselves to vegetarian or plant based foods.
